Every now and then I get the question how long have I been doing this. I answer with a little grin....forever.
As a small family business everyone in the family works in the business, so when I was old enough to help out in our business, I did. Honestly this is the only job I have ever had and I love it.
I share this story as next month marks 10 years since my Fathers passing and October will be 11 since my Mother passed. I miss them always, but know they are with me.
My small business story, my father Charles Nickolson started our business in 1979. In an old farm house located in the middle of an orange grove in Fort Ogden, Florida. Converting our living room into a studio every time we had a photo session. He also did lots of sports photography and work for a local newspaper. After a couple of years he opened our first studio which was located in downtown Arcadia above the Historic Opera house.
I have many fond memories over the years. I remember being in a darkroom developing pictures with my Dad. I have went to so many proms doing photographs. Visited a few different states with work. Meet the George Burns. This path has certainly been interesting. I get the most pleasure out of watching the little ones grow up photographing them along the way to adulthood, and then they bring their families in for photographs. You know you've made an impact.
After many years and different locations in Arcadia and Punta Gorda we decided to combine the studio into one located in Port Charlotte that was in the early 1990's. My parents and I worked in the business until their passing in 2013 and 2014. Now it is my business, I am a 2nd generation photographer. I am very thankful for this business my father started. The Legacy he left me to carry on. This small business my Dad started almost 45 years ago is still my passion.
